This form is used by the External Examiner who is responsible for reviewing and approving the dissertation prior to the defence.
This report will become part of the student's record. Please ensure you answer all questions and provide a thorough, detailed report identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the dissertation.
Your report will be sent to the supervisor and student after the exam is over, and thus provides an opportunity for improvement even for those students who do quite well in their defence. External Examiners' reports also become part of the student's permanent record, and can be used for other purposes, such as contributing to the Dean's decision in cases where there is a lack of consensus on the exam's outcome, and/or could be used as a supporting document should the dissertation be recommended for a prize.
